It would quench thirst though without water, and, though without fire, increase the heat of the love of God. In every plant a consummate spiritual wisdom is hidden, and on the branch of every flower a thousand eloquent nightingales are in rapture and longing. From its wondrous tulips the secret of Moses’ fire is made manifest, and from its holy breaths the breath of the Holy Spirit of Jesus shines forth. Without gold it bestows riches, and without perishing it grants abidingness.
