O King, follow God’s ways in yourself and in your deeds, and do not follow the ways of the wrongdoers. Take the reins of your affairs into your own hand and firm grasp, then inquire into all matters yourself and neglect nothing; in that there is great good. Give thanks to God, your Lord, for having chosen you among His creation and made you a ruler over the Muslims. You should know the measure of what God has bestowed upon you of the marvels of His bounty and beneficence, and thank Him at all times. Your thanks to your Lord is your love for His beloved ones, your safeguarding of His servants and protecting them from these traitors, so that no one may wrong them; then carry out God’s judgment among them so that, in God’s law, you may be among the steadfast.
