The days when you were the throne of the stability of the ancient temple—where are those days? And where are the days when you were the lamp of salvation between earth and heaven, and from you the breezes of glory were fragrant every morning and evening? O House of God, where is the sun of greatness and might that used to shine from your horizon, and where is the dawning-place of the care of your chosen Lord that rested upon you? What is with me, O Throne of God, that I see your condition changed, your pillars shaken, and your door closed against the face of him who sought you? What is with me, that I see you in ruin? Have you heard the Beloved of the worlds beneath swords?
