تفکّر فرمائید که سبب چه بوده که در ازمنهٔ ظهور مظاهر رحمن اهل امکان دوری میجستند و بر اعراض و اعتراض قیام مینمودند اگر ناس در این فقره که از قلم امر جاری شده تفکّر نمایند جمیع بشریعهٴ باقیهٴ الهیّه بشتابند و شهادت دهند بر آنچه او شهادت داده ولکن حجبات اوهام انام را در ایّام ظهور مظاهر احدیّه و مطالع عزّ صمدانیّه منع نموده و مینماید چه که در آن ایّام حقّ بآنچه خود اراده فرموده ظاهر میشود نه بارادهٴ ناس چنانچه فرموده: ﴿أَفَکُلَّمَا جَآءَکُم رَسُولٌ بِمَا لَا تَهْوَی أَنْفُسُکُم اسْتَکْبَرْتُم فَفَرِیْقًا کَذَّبْتُم (edit)
– XXXV – Ponder awhile. What is it that prompted, in every Dispensation, the peoples of the earth to shun the Manifestation of the All-Merciful? What could have impelled them to turn away from Him and to challenge His authority? Were men to meditate on these words which have flowed from the Pen of the Divine Ordainer, they would, one and all, hasten to embrace the truth of this God-given, and ever-enduring Revelation, and would testify to that which He Himself hath solemnly affirmed. It is the veil of idle imaginations which, in the days of the Manifestations of the Unity of God and the Daysprings of His everlasting glory, hath intervened, and will continue to intervene, between them and the rest of mankind. For in those days, He Who is the Eternal Truth manifesteth Himself in conformity with that which He Himself hath purposed, and not according to the desires and expectations of men. Even as He hath revealed: “So oft, then, as an Apostle cometh to you with that which your souls desire not, do ye swell with pride, and treat some as impostors, (edit) Reflect upon what the cause has been that, in the times of the ظهور of the Manifestations of the All-Merciful, the people of the world have kept aloof and arisen in rejection and اعتراض. If people would reflect upon this matter which has flowed from the Pen of the Command, all would hasten to the abiding divine Law and bear witness to that which He hath borne witness; but the veils of men’s vain imaginings have, in the days of the ظهور of the Manifestations of Oneness and the Dawning-Places of the might of the Self-Subsisting, hindered and still hinder. For in those days the Truth appeareth according to what He Himself hath willed, not according to the will of men, as He hath said: “Is it that whenever a messenger cometh unto you with that which your souls desire not, ye waxed arrogant, and some ye denied…” (edit)

وَفَرِیْقًا تَقْتُلُون﴾ البتّه اگر باوهام ناس در ازمنهٔ خالیه و اعصار ماضیه ظاهر میشدند احدی آن نفوس مقدّسه را انکار نمینمود مع آنکه کلّ در لیالی و ایّام بذکر حقّ مشغول بودند و در معابد بعبادت قائم مع ‌ذلک از مطالع آیات ربّانیّه و مظاهر بیّنات رحمانیّه بی‌نصیب بودند چنانچه در کتب مسطور است و آن جناب بر بعضی مطّلعند مثلاً در ظهور مسیح جمیع علمای عصر مع آنکه منتظر ظهور بودند اعراض نمودند و حَنَّان که اعلم علمای عصر بود و هم‌چنین قَیَافَا که اقضی القضاة بود حکم بر کفر نمودند و فتوای (edit)
and slay others.” There can be no doubt whatever that had these Apostles appeared, in bygone ages and cycles, in accordance with the vain imaginations which the hearts of men had devised, no one would have repudiated the truth of these sanctified Beings. Though such men have been, night and day, remembering the one true God, and have been devoutly engaged in the exercise of their devotions, yet they failed in the end to recognize, and partake of the grace of, the Daysprings of the signs of God and the Manifestations of His irrefutable evidences. To this the Scriptures bear witness. Thou hast, no doubt, heard about it. Consider the Dispensation of Jesus Christ. Behold, how all the learned men of that generation, though eagerly anticipating the coming of the Promised One, have nevertheless denied Him. Both Annas, the most learned among the divines of His day, and Caiaphas, the high priest, denounced Him and pronounced the sentence (edit) “And a party you kill.” Nay, if those people had appeared in former times and past ages, none would have denied those holy souls, although all were occupied night and day with the remembrance of God and stood in worship in temples; yet they were deprived of the Dawning-Places of the divine verses and the Manifestations of the evidences of the All-Merciful, as is recorded in the books, and His Honor is aware of some of them. For example, at the advent of Christ, all the divines of the age, though they were awaiting the advent, turned away; and Hannan, who was the most learned of the divines of the age, and likewise Caiaphas, who was the chief of judges, pronounced a judgment of unbelief and issued a legal opinion. In like manner, when Muḥammad, the Prophet of God — may all men be a sacrifice unto Him — appeared, the learned men of Mecca and Medina arose, in the early days of His Revelation, against Him and rejected His Message, while they who were destitute of all learning recognized and embraced His Faith. Consider how Balál, the Ethiopian, unlettered though he was, ascended into the heaven of faith and certitude, whilst ‘Abdu’lláh Ubayy, a leader among the learned, maliciously strove to oppose Him. Behold, how a mere shepherd was so carried away by the ecstasy of the words of God that he was able to gain admittance into the habitation of his Best-Beloved, and was united to Him Who is the Lord of Mankind, whilst they who prided themselves on their knowledge and wisdom strayed far from His path and remained deprived of His grace. Verily I say, such is the greatness of this Cause that the father flieth from his son, and the son flieth from his father. Call ye to mind the story of Noah and Canaan. God grant that, in these days of heavenly delight, ye may not deprive yourselves of the sweet savors of the All-Glorious God, and may partake, in this spiritual Springtime, of the outpourings of His grace. Arise in the name of Him Who is the Object of all knowledge, and, with absolute detachment from the learning of men, lift up your voices and proclaim His Cause. I swear by the Daystar of Divine Revelation! The very moment ye arise, ye will witness how a flood of Divine knowledge will gush out of your hearts, and will behold the wonders of His heavenly wisdom (edit) “And the lowest of you shall be the highest of you.” The purport of this passage has been found in most of the divine books and in the utterances of the Prophets and the chosen ones. Truly I say, the Cause is of such tremendous magnitude that father flees from son and son flees from father; observe it in Noah and Canaan. Were ye to taste of the sweetness of the sayings of the All-Merciful, ye would unhesitatingly forsake your selves, and would lay down your lives for the Well-Beloved. Who can ever believe that this Servant of God hath at any time cherished in His heart a desire for any earthly honor or benefit? The Cause associated with His Name is far above the transitory things of this world. Behold Him, an exile, a victim of tyranny, in this Most Great Prison. His enemies have assailed Him on every side, and will continue to do so till the end of His life. Whatever, therefore, He saith unto you is wholly for the sake of God, that haply the peoples of the earth may cleanse their hearts from the stain of evil desire, may rend its veil asunder, and attain unto the knowledge of the one true God — the most exalted station to which any man can aspire. Their belief or disbelief in My Cause can neither profit nor harm Me. We summon them wholly for the sake of God. He, verily, can afford to dispense with all creatures. (edit) Speak plainly: if you find the sweetness of the utterance of the All-Merciful, you will pass beyond your own life and spend in the path of the Friend. This is very clear: this servant has had no worldly desire and has none, for his affair is beyond outward considerations; as is evident, he has fallen, a stranger and oppressed, into the Most Great Prison and has not been delivered from the hands of enemies, nor will he be. Therefore whatever he says is for the sake of God, that perhaps people may be purified from the veils of self and desire and may attain unto the recognition of the Truth, which is the highest station. Their turning away does not harm me, nor does their turning toward me benefit me; we call them only for the sake of God. Verily He is the Self-Sufficient. (edit)
